Play Smash Karts

The objective

Smash every rival you can. Survive as long as you can.

Smash Karts is a single-player browser arena battle. You drive a rocket-armed kart around a floating platform, and AI-controlled rivals do the same. Blast a rival's health to zero, or ram it off the arena edge, to smash it and score a kill.

There is no finish line — you keep playing until you lose all three lives. Every four kills advances the wave, adding more rivals and making them faster and more accurate. The skill is staying mobile, landing rocket shots, and knowing when to disengage for a Repair kit.

The game is free, runs in the browser, and does not require an account. Open play Smash Karts when you want the arena; use this guide for controls, weapons, and the habits that keep a run alive.

Controls

Drive with WASD, aim with the mouse

Driving and aiming are independent — you can strafe past a rival while your turret stays locked on target.

  • Keyboard

    Arrow keys / WASD

Hold an arrow key or W/A/S/D to drive: up/W accelerates, down/S brakes or reverses, and left/right steer. Your kart keeps momentum, so easing off before a turn keeps you from sliding wide.

  • Desktop turret

    Mouse aim + click

Your turret rotates to follow the mouse cursor at all times, independent of your driving direction. Left click or press Space to fire whatever weapon is currently loaded.

  • Phone & tablet

    Touch joystick + Fire

Drag the on-screen joystick to drive in any direction. Tap the FIRE button to shoot — the turret automatically tracks and leads the nearest rival kart within range, so aiming is one tap.

The loop

Four steps, repeated every run

Every run follows the same sequence. Understanding it is most of what "getting good" at Smash Karts means.

  1. 1

    Take the wheel

Drive your kart around the floating battle arena with the arrow keys or WASD (or a touch joystick on mobile). Momentum matters — karts accelerate, drift, and take a moment to turn, just like a real vehicle.

  2. 2

    Aim and fire

Your turret aims wherever your mouse points, independent of which way the kart is driving, so you can strafe past a rival while still lining up a shot. Click or press Space to fire; on mobile the turret auto-tracks the nearest rival for you.

  3. 3

    Grab power-ups

Glowing pickups spawn around the arena: Shotgun for a close-range spread, Mines to drop behind you, a Boost for a burst of speed, and Repair kits to heal. Drive over one to pick it up instantly.

  4. 4

    Smash rivals off the edge

Blast a rival kart's health to zero, or ram and knock them past the arena edge, to smash them for a kill. Survive as waves add more rivals — you have three lives before the run ends.

Scoring & lives

How a Smash Karts run is actually scored

The rules stay the same throughout a run. Only the wave — and how many rivals are on the arena at once — changes.

  • The objective

Blast rival karts down to zero health, or ram them off the arena edge, to score a smash. There is no timer — you keep playing until you run out of lives, chasing the highest score you can.

  • Scoring

Every rival you smash adds to your score, and the value climbs as later waves throw tougher, faster, more accurate bots at you. Surviving into a higher wave is worth more than any single kill early on.

  • Health and lives

Your kart has a health bar that drains from rocket hits and ramming damage. At zero health — or if you get knocked off the arena edge — your kart explodes and you lose one of three lives, respawning at full health if any remain.

  • Game over

The run ends when your third life is lost. Your final score and the wave you reached are compared against your saved best, and a new game starts fresh from wave one.

Use Restart from the in-game menu to abandon a run and start fresh at any time. Details on local saves and resets live in the Smash Karts FAQ.

Weapons

Rocket, Shotgun, and Mine

Your rocket launcher never runs out, and pickups give you a temporary edge. Full details on every weapon and power-up are on the weapons page.

  1. 01 · Default weapon

    Rocket

Every kart starts with unlimited rockets. They fly straight, deal solid damage on a direct hit, and knock the target back — the reliable, always-available option.

  2. 02 · Close-range pickup

    Shotgun

A three-pellet spread with a handful of charges. Devastating up close where the spread cannot miss, weak at range where the pellets fan out too wide.

  3. 03 · Area-denial pickup

    Mine

Drop a mine behind your kart. It arms after a second, then detonates on any rival that drives near it — a strong deterrent near contested power-ups.

Common mistakes

Why most runs end early

Smash Karts losses are usually positioning errors, not bad luck. These are the patterns that end a promising run.

  • Driving in straight lines

A kart moving in a straight line is the easiest possible target. Rivals lead their shots the same way you should — constant turning and strafing is what keeps you alive under fire.

  • Chasing a low-health rival off the edge

Ramming a weak rival near the rim is a great kill, but committing too much speed can carry your own kart past the edge with them. Ease off the throttle right before contact.

  • Ignoring power-ups

Skipping Shotgun, Mine, Boost, and Repair pickups to just spam rockets leaves you at a permanent disadvantage against rivals who grab everything on the map.

  • Fighting at full throttle near zero health

One more hit ends a low-health run. Disengage and circle toward a Repair kit instead of trading rockets when your health bar is nearly empty.

Strategy habits

Tips to score higher

Treat these as habits, not shortcuts. For a deeper walkthrough, see the full tips page.

  • Lead your shots — rockets travel at a fixed speed, so aim slightly ahead of a moving target instead of straight at it.
  • Use the arena edge as a weapon. A rival at low health near the rim is one solid ram away from an instant smash.
  • Circle-strafe instead of driving straight at a rival — it keeps your turret on target while making you harder to hit.
  • Grab Repair kits even at half health; staying topped up means one bad rocket does not end your run.
  • Save Mines for chokepoints near pickups, where rivals reliably drive over them chasing loot.
  • Watch your position relative to the rim during a firefight — knockback from a hit can push you off the edge as easily as a rival.

Where you can play

Same arena on phone and desktop

Smash Karts runs in any modern browser. You do not install an app from a store. If two devices disagree about your best score, that is expected: progress never leaves the browser you played in.

  • Desktop browsers

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all run Smash Karts with no plugin. Drive with arrow keys or WASD and aim with the mouse — no download required.

  • Phones and tablets

Smash Karts is touch-first on mobile: a virtual joystick handles driving, and a single FIRE button handles auto-aimed shooting. Landscape orientation gives the most arena visibility.

  • Progress on this device

Your best score, best wave, and total career kills live in local browser storage. They stay until you reset them or clear site data, and they do not sync across devices.
